Unions grab for policy power

TRADE union leaders would directly choose 50 per cent of the voting delegates to the Labor Party conference under a plan to dramatically increase union power over policy. The Left faction, led by Senator Doug Cameron, proposes to boost the power of union officials at Labor’s national conference in Sydney. The conference is Labor’s supreme policy-making body and will vote on the Gillard government’s plan to sell uranium to India and a proposal to support gay marriage.
